Las Vegas Weather - Aug. 10 - 14, 2011 And An Airport Tip

It will be hot today, Wednesday, August 10th, but the temperature will back down a few degrees through the rest of the week. Las Vegas Weather for August 10 -14, 2011 will be hot, but the nights will be fantastic. Plus, a tip on how to save a lot of money at the airport.

I can't stress it enough how important it is to keep yourself hydrated in the desert. In high heat, your body can lose as much as a quart of fluids per hour. Always carry water with you. If you perspire a lot, sports drinks replenish some of the electrolytes you lose, so keep them in mind as a beverage option as your seeing the sites.

AIRPORT SAVINGS

When people first arrive in Las Vegas, they are immediately hit with the ringing and dinging of slot machines. On the way out of town, those slot machines are still chiming away. The temptation to make one last bet is coaxing you toward the machines. STOP!

The slot machines at the airport are some of the tightest machines in all of Vegas. You're throwing your money away.

Also, do you souvenir shopping at gift shops along The Strip or off the beaten path. You'll pay a premium at the airport for those dice or that deck of cards with all the casinos on them.

Save yourself a few bucks by shopping and gambling wisely in Sin City. There are no deals at the airport.

Sobriety Checkpoints All Over Las Vegas For July Fourth Weekend - Take Cab, Bus or Limo

Metro Police will be out in force with sobriety checkpoints.

When you get to Las Vegas, you have to grab a drink or plunk some money in a machine and get a "FREE" drink. As the "FREE" drinks flow, you can easily get too far out on the limb. A word of caution: Sobriety checkpoints will be all over Las Vegas for July Fourth Weekend - take a cab, bus or limo. 

Don't ruin you trip by driving drunk in Las Vegas. It's too easy to take a cab, take a bus or if you have a gang, rent a limo. With business down in Las Vegas, limos were going for about $35 to $50 an hour. If you have five or six people, and they each chip in $20 or $30, you can go all over town in style and never worry about anyone getting busted or worse - hurting someone else.

Keep in mind, the longer you rent the limo, the better the hourly rate should be. Shop around. You could have an absolute blast. I've done it several times and it was well worth it.

Also, you cannot hail a cab on the street in Las Vegas - it's against the law. You can only get a cab at a cab stand at a hotel or casino.

With sobriety checkpoints all over Las Vegas for the Fourth of July weekend, do the smart thing and take a cab, bus or limo.

Where To Watch The Fireworks In Las Vegas On July 4th Weekend, 2011

Caesars Palace could be best spot for fireworks.

Usually, there has been a large display of fireworks on The Strip in Las Vegas, which involved most of the major properties. However, this year, only Caesars Palace and Mandalay Bay are hosing fireworks on The Strip. However, there are plenty of locations where you can see the bombs bursting in air. I'll give you some tips on where to watch fireworks in Las Vegas on July 4th, 2011.

Probably the best deal for seeing fireworks in Las Vegas will be the show put on from the top of the Roman Tower at Caesars Palace. From what I can tell, there is no charge and all you have to do is be in the vicinity. Make note: This show is on July 3rd and kicks off at 9:15 pm.

Mandalay Bay will host a fireworks display and a concert by Mystic Roots. Cost is $25. Doors open at 8 pm on the 4th.

After another windy day today and a second day of under 100º temperatures today and tomorrow, the heat returns. Las Vegas Weather for Jun 29 - July 3, 2011 will have heat, drink plenty of water, apply sunscreen regularly and stay by the pool.

When I first moved to Las Vegas, I was good up until about 103º. Over the years, I added a few degrees to that. Once temperatures went above 105º, it was time to stay inside or by the pool. I'm sure the same will apply to you, if you're headed to Las Vegas for the weekend.

TIP: You have no idea how much you are perspiring in Las Vegas because your sweat evaporates almost immediately. As a result, it is very easy to get dehydrated. Make sure you drink plenty of water this week. If you drink alcohol, every other drink or every third drink should be water. Alcohol only speeds up the dehydration process.

Do your walking early in the morning or at dusk and at night. If you're committed to seeing the The Strip during the day, take the Deuce buses - double-deck buses - to get from one end of The Strip to the other.

Have a great time. If you want to learn a casino game, check with any of the pit bosses, concierge or casino hosts and the casino most likely offers free lessons. Don't just sit at a slot machine the whole time you're in Vegas. Play!

Best Time To Go To A Las Vegas Buffet

Avoid standing in long buffet lines with this Las Vegas Tip.

Everyone loves the bountiful buffets in Las Vegas. If you're like me, you hate waiting in long lines. The key to zipping in and getting your plate stacked high quickly is to know the best time to go to a Las Vegas buffet.

The first thing you have to understand is human nature. Most people follow a rather rigid routine in their daily lives and that routine doesn't change when they come to Las Vegas. Their routines shift a bit, but they don't change drastically.

Most people eat lunch around noon and dinner around 6 pm in their normal lives. When they come to Las Vegas, those times shift back about half an hour.

Lunchtime buffets have peak lines between noon and 1 pm. Dinner crowds line up between 6 pm and 7 or 7:30 pm.

If you're willing to not follow the herd, either hit the buffet a bit earlier or a bit later and you should have no problem strolling right up and getting seated almost immediately.

It is customary to tip at least $1 per person for the servers that replenish your drinks at the buffets. Don't forget, Las Vegas lives on tips and you'll do better by reading Las Vegas Tips before you head to the desert.

How To Get Comps In Las Vegas - FREE STUFF

You can get FREE stuff in Vegas, if you play the game.

One of the most popular questions from Las Vegas visitors is, "How to get comps in Las Vegas?"

In the mob days, comps were easy to come by. If you gambled or hooked up with one of the pit bosses or the concierge, you could usually get a steady stream of comps for meals or shows.

Now, in the Las Vegas era of big corporations, accountants and data mining wizards, there is only one way to get comps in Las Vegas and it requires two steps.

1. You have to sign up for a players club card
2. You have to gamble

It's that simple.

Las Vegas marketing is all based on numbers. Every casino wants to know where you are from, how much you make, how much you gamble, how much you lose and when can they get you back to do more of the same.

The players club card is easy to get. Ask any host, pit boss or dealer where you can sign up for a players card. Every casino has a special section for their players club. Some casinos offer a free gift or some incentive comps for signing up.

Once you have the players card, make sure you use it every time you gamble. Plug it into the slot and video poker machines, hand it to the dealer at the blackjack or craps table. If you have it, use it every time you wager a dime.

All of your gambling activity is logged and calculated. Casinos look at your average bet, how long you play, how much you win and how much you lose. Your stats are plugged into a magic casino marketing computer and you will receive a rating. You will never know your rating - that is a highly guarded secret by every casino. They strive to attract and develop a list of visitors that are the highest rated players they can get.

Win or lose, you are accumulating points on your players club account. If you're a modest gambler, your players club card can get you discounts at the buffet or on show tickets. If you gamble a lot more, you can get free meals and even free rooms.

For a short time, I was a regular craps player at the Hooters Hotel. I was introduced to the Casino Host, who was in charge of making people like me happy. A couple times I called him up and asked for a free room. Since I had been showing up rather regularly at his craps table, he was glad to fulfill my request.

I have a few friends that are very big players. They gamble thousands of dollars every time they play. Casinos love players like them. I know that usually once or twice a year they will be offered a free weekend stay - room and meals are included. But they better show up and gamble, otherwise, someone in casino marketing will wind up with egg on their face and may lose their job.

Vegas used to be known for cheap rooms, cheap food and the mobsters tried to make you as comfortable as possible so that you'd gladly and easily give up your money at the machines and on the tables. Comps were part of the scene and were expected. These days, the bean counters have taken all the fun out of comps. When You Can And Cannot Valet Park In Las Vegas

Hotel guests get preference. But you can still Valet Park.

In a previous post, I mentioned that valet parking is FREE throughout Las Vegas. Anyone can use valet parking, however, there are certain times when the hotels will impose restrictions as to who can and cannot use valet parking.

Since valet parking is available to anyone most of the time, I'll tell you when you will not be able to use valet parking.

Friday afternoon and evening is the time when all of the travelers from the surrounding states are coming in. If the valet parking is filling up, the attendants will only allow registered hotel guests to use valet until it is full.

Friday and Saturday night are the nights when valet parking fills up. If you want to use valet parking, you'll need to arrive early - say... before 5 pm.

Certain properties that have large showrooms or arenas with shows and attractions will draw large crowds and valet will tend to fill up then. Again... arrive early and you should not have a problem.

Retrieving Your Car From The Valet

Las Vegas is programmed to move a lot of people quickly. Waiting for your car at the valet should usually only be a few minutes. However, when a big show or attraction dumps its audience into the casino, droves of people will be heading to the valet. If you don't want to wait, there is plenty to do in any of the casinos. Grab a cup of coffee and return to the valet when the crowd has simmered down.

You can always use the parking garage. But part of being in Las Vegas is to be able to act like a big shot and valet parking adds that little touch to your high roller experience. Have fun and valet park in Las Vegas.

Valet Parking Is FREE In Las Vegas

Enjoy FREE Valet Parking everywhere in Las Vegas.

Many visitors to Sin City do no know that valet parking is FREE in Las Vegas.

If you're from Chicago or New York or any other major city, valet parking can be $6 to $10 or more. Not in Las Vegas.

Valet parking is FREE wherever it is available. The only cost you will incur will be a tip. It is customary to tip $1 to $2 on the way out. If you were a big winner at the casino, tip big - it's all part of the Las Vegas experience.

Las Vegas Hotel Tip: Best place to park at the MGM Grand Hotel

Depending on which list you check, the MGM Grand in Las Vegas is either the largest or second largest hotel in the world. It boasts over 6,500 rooms. It also has one of the largest parking garages in the world with over 15,000 parking spaces. And this gives me a good opportunity for a Las Vegas Hotel Tip.

After years of wrestling with the parking at the MGM, I finally figured out the most efficient way to park.

Most people will wind their way up through the garage until they find an opening, and then park. This, however, could leave you a hundred yards or more from the entrance to the Star Walk, which is the pathway to the escalators that take you to the main lobby.

Parking miles away is no big deal at the beginning of the evening, but after a night on the town, you want to get to your car as quick as possible.

To cut down the distance from your car and the Star Walk entrance, keep winding your way up through the garage until the cars start to thin out. Once you find a relatively empty floor, follow the signs that point to the entrance. Drive as close as you can in the direction of the entrance and then park as close as you can to one of the elevators.

At the end of the night, you can stroll out of the Star Walk over to the nearby elevator and zip up to your car, which should be nearby. You'll save yourself a ton of walking. And after a long day you'll love this tip.
